XIII Godparents’ Meeting

   
Every year, the Foundation organizes a meeting with godparents, benefactor businesses and institutions, where a summary of the activities that have been carried out in the past year is presented, as well as the financial statements of the organization. Around twenty (20) “Darienita” children that excelled in their schools throughout the year are invited to participate in the meeting, where they are introduced to their godparents.
 

A numerous group of Godfathers and Godmothers participating in the XIII Godparents’ Meeting held in August 2003, view presentations performed by boys and girls of both the different ethnic groups inhabiting Darien and guest groups from the Capital City.

Child Summer-Camps
    Eleven (11) years ago, the PRO CHILDREN FOUNDATION OF DARIEN developed a Child Summer-Camp in which 120 leader boys and girls from the “Carretera Panamericana” and “Emberá – Wounaan” area schools participate. In the camp, where the “Granja Agro-ecológica Niños de Darién” (Agro ecological Farm of Darien Children) is located, the children receive training on the use of the land, self-sustainable agricultural production techniques, and the protection of natural resources. In addition, they participate in sport competitions and “folkloric” dance courses, among other activities.
  School Fairs
    During the past 5 years and as part of their educational activities, the PRO CHILDREN FOUNDATION OF DARIEN has sponsored an annual School Fair at the end of the Natural Resources Month. In this fair, the most outstanding boys and girls of school centers that belong to the school program participate with drawings, paintings, stories, oratory, folkloric songs, murals and model development contests.
  Distribution of Christmas Presents
   
Each November, the Foundation personnel as well as volunteers visit different communities in the Darien region and organize Christmas parties and provide gifts for the 10,000 boys and girls of the pre-school and school programs in the name of their Godfathers and Godmothers.
 

The President of the Fundación Pro Niños del Darien, Guibel Méndez de Holmes distributes a Christmas present to a “darienita” girl from the Villa Darien Elementary School. Each year, boys and girls that participate in Foundation programs receive a Christmas gift in the name of their godparent.

Anniversary Mass
    This year, with a Thanksgiving Mass in April, the personnel and executives commemorated the XIII year Anniversary of the Foundation working in benefit of children from the most deprived communities of the Darien Province.
Month of Corporate Social Responsibility
    The PRO CHILDREN FOUNDATION OF DARIEN participated in the Month of Corporate Social Responsibility organized by the “Centro de Inversión Social CEDIS” (Center of Social Investment CEDIS). In this context, the Foundation introduced an important group of businessmen to the “Desarrollo Comunitario de Darien DECO-DARIEN” (Darien Community Development DECO-DARIEN), in which the group had the opportunity to see a photo presentation of the activities and programs of the organization.
Panama Canal Visit
    The twenty (20) children from diverse “Darienita” communities that participated in the XIII Godfather and Godmother reunion had the opportunity to visit the Miraflores Locks and view the operations of the Panama Canal.
Explora Visit
    The outstanding 20 “Darienita” school children that participated in the Foundation’s XIII Godfather and Godmother reunion that took place in August, also visited the installations of the Science and Technology Center, EXPLORA, where the children had the opportunity to walk through the modules and participate in the different and interesting exhibitions that EXPLORA presents.
  Children’s Day
    Every year, the Foundation launches a party for Children’s Day, with sport competitions and awards for children excelling in the activities.
  Christmas Parade
   
“Darienita” children enrolled in the School Program of the PRO CHILDREN FOUNDATION OF DARIEN were able to attend the Christmas parade organized by the Panama City Major’s office.
