In 1989, Monseñor Romulo Emiliani, c.m.f
begins his pastoral work as
“Apostolic Vicar of Darien”, by visiting the communities and forging an
intimate relationship with the population and its leaders, at the same
time becoming aware of the poverty and its natural companion: child
malnutrition. In addition to this, the teachers’ testimony pointed

class, were distracted, in addition to a high degree of absenteeism and
school desertion.
As a solution to this problem, “Monseñor Emiliani” assembled a group of
Panamanians, businessman and women, motivated people and Christians who
committed to help Darien. Thus, without available capital but with great
enthusiasm for the task the PRO CHILDREN FOUNDATION OF DARIEN was
established on April 25th, 1990.
